Okay - something I just don't understand: people who go into a coffee shop for a drink and wind up ordering something completely ridiculous. Half-caf soy latte, unsweet, half-foam, a shot of sugar-free caramel flavoring, no whip. Jeez, just take the fun right out of ordering a latte. I mean, what are normal people supposed to say after that? "Hi, can I have a pumpkin spice latte? Um... just the pumpkin... and the spice? No, no - no special instructions." Seriously?

Also, I seem to have purchased about a pound of roasted pumpkin seeds, so if you want any, I'm leaving them in the kitchen. They're pretty much delicious.

So you are saying you would not be willing to get me a double-whip hazelnut-cinnamon-caramel latte macchiato with an extra shot of espresso?

Nah, I'll totally get you one of those. Cause you're not taking things away, you're adding stuff. A lot of stuff - how do you even distinguish the tastes from one another?

How do you distinguish from the different tastes in soup or a good wine or sauces? Caramel is sweet, cinnamon is slightly spicy and hazelnut is ... nutty.

Valid question. I'd never given it much thought. A sauce is a sauce, a wine's a wine. It's either good or it's not. That's usually about as far as my analysis of it goes.
